Struggling to get back into the swing of things after holidays?
Updated: Sep 18, 2019
It’s Wednesday, the middle of September, and Summer is well and truly in the rear view mirror. For the majority of us holidays are now over until Christmas, and getting back into the everyday grind can be a difficult thing.
You are not alone, so here are a few tips and tricks to get back into the flow of things after your holidays.
Get back to your routine
Finding your routine can be one of the hardest things after holiday. Maybe you were up for a week partying in Ibiza, or maybe at a relaxing retreat. But unless you were ridiculously strict with yourself, you probably had more lay ins than normal and stayed up well past your bed time. This can have a knock on effect when you return to work, and can result in a lack of productivity. To get back into a routine, ensure you wake up at the same time everyday, including weekends. Eat healthy and try and cut out alcohol as much as possible, I know this can be a tough ask working in recruitment. But if you do, your body will be thanking you later.
Remove any distractions
There are too many distractions like unlimited content on the social networks, filling in your work colleagues with your holiday stories or catching up with managers in pointless meetings. Try and avoid unnecessary distractions, and if you do get distracted, when you get back to the task at hand ensure you remove any other distractions so you can crack on and be productive.
Don’t dive straight in the deep end
Sometimes diving in the deep end is good, but getting back to it can be mentally and physically overwhelming. You will probably have hundreds of emails, a mountain of tasks and on your first day back, it is important to pace yourself to avoid burnout.
Book a day off to sort your life out
There’s nothing worse than getting back on the Sunday, and then having to be in work first thing Monday with a mountain of clothes washing to do, some house chores and holiday blues. Take the first day back off to sort your life out so you can go back to work feeling fresh as a daisy.
Plan your next holiday
This is the best tip we can give. Book yourself another holiday, or a trip. Whether it is a bit of winter sun, a city break to see some Christmas markets or maybe a cheeky ski trip.
